This
brass faced Grandfather clock, or tall clock, has a 10 inch brass face
is engraved with the makers name and swags of leaves. The Brass chapter
ring has Roman numerals, quarter hour divisions and trefoil mark for half
the hour.
The clock has the original ornate steel single hand. The single hand was
an early design originally seen in lantern clocks of the seventeen century.
At the time this clock was made precise time keeping was not considered
a necessity.
The
corner fitted cast brass spandrels are of similar design to the engraving
on the dial.
This
antique longcase clock has a 30 hour four pillar movement strikes the
hour, has been recently serviced, and works well. It has an interesting
lever mechanism to set the strike.
The
case is made from English oak with walnut columns to the side of the hood.
The long door has ogee molding to the top and original hand made hinges. It
stands on a box base which has a shaped plinth. This is a very original
country clock.
