A superb pair of antique English mahogany armchairs
in the Hepplewhite style, with carved camel backs and shaped arms.
Each chair has a carved leaf design with central floral
motif. The intricate central splat has an anthemeon (flower like ornament
in a honeysuckle) design with leaf carving below.
The elbows of the
arms are also decorated with a carved leaf design.
The curved shaped drop in saddle seats have been reupholstered
in an antique finish tan hide.
The chairs stand on tapering square front legs with
a Georgian style mould to the leading edge and swept back square section
legs to the rear. The chair legs stand on small brass castors.
These very attractive antique English chairs are very comfortable
to sit on and are the right height for use with most antique partners
desks. The exceptional quality of the timbers, manufacture and intricate
design make these a very desirable pair of antique desk chairs.
There has been no repairs to the timbers on either chair
and they have a rich mahogany patina associated with the Georgian
period.
These pair of English antique chairs would compliment any antique
partners desk or enhance any setting as occasional or dining chairs.
