| A very handsome late Georgian mahogany partners desk with well figured timbers throughout and an old faded green hide writing surface. The writing surface is decorated with gilt, thistle and rose tooling and is surrounded by a 3 inch band of mahogany with a bullnose moulding. The frieze is fitted with three drawers to the from and the rear which have ash linings and hand made dovetail joints. All the drawers have attractive and very decorative brass ring pull handles with ornate pierced backs. The pedestals are each fitted with three drawers to the front and cupboards to the reverse and stand on plinth bases with concealed castors. The cupboards each have a shelf and the doors have matched figured timbers. The desk is a very good size being six foot three inches in length and four feet wide. Desks from this period and of this size are becoming increasingly rare and this is a very handsome example. |
