This very rare and ornate antique partners desk
is made of the best quality mahogany timbers.
The carved design on the edge of the writing top, the blind fret carving
to the drawer fronts and the cupboards and the shape of the handles
are all typical of Irish antique furniture.
The ornate decoration to all sides of the desk shows it was designed
to be a center piece of an office or library. It is a very useful
size being almost square, measuring 51 inches x 45 inches, and has
a very substantial feel for a smaller sized partners desk.
The top is fitted with a tan coloured writing surface with blind
tooling surrounded by a 3 inch border of attractively figured mahogany.
The bull nosed edge is carved in a leaf pattern and there are 3 drawers
fitted beneath on each writing side.
The front has 3 drawers to each pedestal and there are 2 cupboards
to the reverse. The cupboards each have two hand made more drawers
in them which are more recent additions to the desk and probably more
useful than the traditional shelves.
The cupboards have the original keys for the side fitted locks.The
pedestals stand on platform bases with hidden castors.
The drawers are ash and pine lined and retain their original locks
stamped with the Royal Cypher.
The turned wooden handles are also original to the desk.This fine
Irish antique desk has a beautiful bright mahogany colour with deeper
tones in the figuring of the timber. The desk has developed a good
patina and is overall a very attractive piece of furniture.
