A Very attractive
late Victorian semi partners desk in the mid 18th centuary, George
11, style circa 1890.
This very attractive burr and figured
walnut desk has its original leather writing surface in a faded green
with an aged patina after many years of use. This is a highly prized
asset as most desk of this age have had their writing surfaces replaced
a number of times. The writing surface is surounded by a cross band
of figured walnut with a bull nose molded edge.
The drawers have burr walnut fronts,
cross banded with walnut and cock beaded edges. They are deal (antique
pine) lined with hand cut dovetails, brass locks and the original
ornate brass handles.
The top has three drawers to the front
and three dummy drawers to the reverse. Each pedestal has three drawers
with cupboards to the reverse. The panels of the cupboard doors are
are in quarter cut, matched, burr walnut veneers.
The sides of the desk have a planeer
figured walnut veneerwith cross banded edges. The pedestals stand
on the original shaped bracket feet.
As with all pedestal style desks it
is made in separate parts for ease of movement and installation.
The desk has been sympathetically
restoredwith no magor cabinet work undertaken.
