A late Victorian semi partners desk in the mid 18th centuary, George 11, style circa 1890. This very attractive burr and figured walnut desk has its original leather writing surface in a faded green with an aged patina after many years of use. This is a highly prized asset as most desk of this age have had their writing surfaces replaced a number of times. The writing surface is surounded by a cross band of figured walnut with a bull nose molded edge. The drawers have burr walnut fronts, cross banded with walnut and cock beaded edges. They are deal (antique pine) lined with hand cut dovetails, brass locks and the original ornate brass handles. The top has three drawers to the front and three dummy drawers to the reverse. Each pedestal has three drawers with cupboards to the reverse. The panels of the cupboard doors are are in quarter cut, matched, burr walnut veneers. The sides of the desk have a planeer figured walnut veneerwith cross banded edges. The pedestals stand on the original shaped bracket feet. As with all pedestal style desks it is made in separate parts for ease of movement and installation. The desk has been sympathetically restoredwith no magor cabinet work undertaken. Date: circa 1890
