An attractive small antique Victorian pedestal
desk from the middle of the 19th century. It has nicely figured
timbers and colour associated with the earlier period of William 1V.
The desk has a black leather writing surface with gilt
and blind tooling. This is surrounded by a 3 inch band of mahogany
with a 'bullnose' moulded edge. The
top is fitted with three drawers with hand cut dovetails, mahogany
linings, original brass locks and turned wooden knobs.
The pedestals are each fitted with three drawers and
have plinth bases with original guilt brass and ceramic castors.
This very attractive small antique desk is polished
all round so can be used as a free-standing piece and is a good size
for a small study or alcove.
As with most pedestal desks, it is made in three sections,
top and two pedestals, for ease of installation and assembly.
