A very good quality antique pedestal desk in the Victorian
Gothic Revival style made from top quality figured oak timbers.
The desk is made in three sections, the top and two
pedestals, for ease of movement and installation.
The top has an old bottle green leather writing surface
with gilt and blind tooling. This is surrounded by a boarder of oak
with a 'bulls nose' molded edge.
The top is fitted with three, very deep, oak lined drawers,
with the original brass locks. They have hand cut dovetail joints,
brass handles and escutcheons.
The pedestals have 'Lancet' style arched panel doors.
The left door encloses 4 sliding trays and the right three drawers
with inset brass handles. The pedestals stand on plinth bases with
hidden castors and have 'Lancet' panels to the reverse.
The desk has keys for all the drawers and the paneled
doors.
This is an unusual desk which has a very attractive
rich patina and has been recently restored. It is in excellent condition
and ready to grace any office or study.
