A very good quality Antique
Pedestal Desk highly figured flame mahogany veneers
all round.
During the early 20th century there
was a revival of interest in Georgian designs from the second half
of the 18th century. This desk incorporates features associated with
Robert Adam.
The desk has an oval 'Eau de Nile' leather
writing surface with gilt and blind tooling. This is surrounded by
highly figured veneers with a 1 inch cross-band to the edge. The edge
of the top has a quarter round mould know as a 'Caddy Top'.
The top is fitted with three drawers,
the central drawer has a serpentine outline. The drawers are oak lined
of dovetail construction with the original locks and handles. They
have cock- beaded edges.
The outside front corners are concave
with a beaded mould which matches that on the drawers.
The pedestals are fitted with three
drawers and stand on shaped bracket feet.
The desk is made in three sections,
top and two pedestals for ease of movement and installation.
This is a stylish antique desks in
beautiful condition and would look good as a center piece in a study.
It is designed to be freestanding in a room as it has a polished back.
