An absolutely fabulous George 1V mahogany partners
writing table supplied by the well regarded London firm of M. Willson,
68 Great Queens Street. (their stamp found on both middle drawers).
This beautiful antique partners writing or library
table is constructed of the best quality figured timbers in a lovely
rich colour typical of Georgian furniture.
The table has a new black hide writing surface
with blind and gilt, Greek Key, tooling. The leather is surrounded
by a band of figured mahogany with a 'thumb molded edge' and rounded
corners.
The frieze is fitted with three drawers to each side with ogee
molding to the edges. They are mahogany lined, with hand cut dovetails,
original brass locks with brass escutcheons and turned wooded knobs.
This handsome antique table stands on four turned and reeded legs
with the original brass cup castors. This style of leg is associated
with Gillows of Lancaster who may well be the manufactures of this
fine table because of its design and quality.
This is a really fine quality antique library table which has been professionally and sympathetically restored.
