This beautiful Antique French Walnut and Ormolu Writing Table is of exceptional high quality.
The table is of serpentine form with a shaped top inlaid with a burgundy hide writing surface with gilt and blind tooling. This is surrounded by a band of tulip wood and strung in ebony and boxwood. This is followed by a band of figured and burr walnut. The edging of the top is also decorated with a similar band of tulip wood, box wood and ebony and is surrounded by a floral boarder in ormolu (gilded brass).
The serpentine form is continued in the frieze all around the table allowing it to be used as a freestanding piece.
There is one central drawer lined in mahogany with hand cut dovetail joints and the original scrolling handles.
The table stands on four bold cabriole legs with floral and leaf design ormolu mounts running the full length of the front edge of the legs and terminating in a similar design on the feet. There is a chamfered edge to the inside of the legs and the frieze and they are cross-banded in king wood.
Condition: All of the ormolu mounts and veneers are in original condition. The table has been cleaned and wax polished and is in good antique condition.
This is a very fine, high quality antique table would make a beautiful statement piece in a sitting room, office, library or indeed enhance any room.
