Antique Writing Table Gillows, Lancaster Mahogany Writing Table
or Side Table c1830.
A
fine quality antique writing table from the early 19th Centaury made
by one of the most prestigious English furniture makers, Gillows Lancaster.
The table is stamped in capital letters Gillows Lancaster to the top
edge of the right hand drawer. It is made from the best quality mahogany
and to the highest standards.
The
perfect proportions of the table its elegance, style and great attention
to detail are typical of Gillows furniture. It has a generously shaped
raised back and a polished top with thumb moulded edge. The frieze below
is fitted with two cock beaded drawers having the original turned wooden
handles.
The
table stands on slender turned and reeded legs with the original brass
cup castors.The design of both the legs and handles are associated with
Gillows. Condition The table is in excellent condition and has benefited
from cleaning and waxing to the body of the table with only the top
needing french polishing.
This very attractive and rare item of furniture is serviceable and would
grace any traditional home. Gillows of Lancaster were the most celebrated
of English furniture makers established in the early 18th centaury.
Their furniture is very desirable and sought after due to the high quality
and beautiful design.

This piece originally came from a convent in Malvern Worcestershire,
England.
