This is an absolutely top quality
antique writing table made from solid quality mahogany.
It has a black hide writing surface with gilt and blind tooling which
is bordered by a band of figured mahogany. The top of the writing
table has a bull nose edge molding and rounded corners.
There are three drawers fitted to
either side of the length each with mahogany linings and hand cut
dovetail joints and brass locks. The drawers have an unusual design
which do not use knobs or handles. They are opened by pulling from
beneath the drawer front where there is a carved indentation for gripping
the drawer open.
This attractive antique mahogany table
stands on four well turned legs finished with the original, very good
quality, brass cup castors.
This beautiful antique writing
table is of a most serviceable size with a very attractive
patina and lovely figuring in the wood. Antique Georgian writing tables
of this quality and condition are very rare now and this would make
a very striking and attractive feature for any study, office or library.
