
Longcase
or Grandfather Clock by Mullenex, Derby, circa 1790
A beautiful
antique oak longcase clock made in the late 18th century by Mullenex
of Derby England. It has a handsome 13 inch circular brass face engraved
with the makers name, Mullenex.
The
circular clock dial with has both Roman numerals and Arabic numerals,
for each 5 minute interval, on the outer rim and still has the original
ornate hands made from blue steel. The face also displays the date
in a semi-circle aperture decorated with floral swag engravings.
This
type of brass clock face is particularly associated with Derbyshire,
England.
The clock has an eight day movement striking the hours on a bell.
The
oak case has a swan neck pediment to the hood with dentil moulding
and turned mahogany pillars. The long door has an ogee moulded top
flanked by turned 1/4 columns.
The
box base has paneled moulding's and the clock stands on ogee bracket
feet.The case has benefited from some professional restoration and
is a very attractive rich brown colour.
