This very fine antique mahogany hat and coat stand was made in France in the mid-Victorian period.

The stunning mahogany is enhanced by a skilled construction and is a beautiful example of the wood turners art.

Based upon the central turned column, there are a number of turned pegs of varying sizes culminating in a circular revolving crown of large upright and smaller horizontal turned pegs. The circular capstan shape below is reminiscent of a ships wheel and also revolves.

The whole stands on lovely curved tripod cabriole legs.

We believe this is a rare survivor from the mid-Victorian period and has miraculously remained in excellent original condition. There have been no repairs to the timbers and all the turnings are original. It has a has a beautiful patinated finish.
