Rare Antique Mahogany Bonheur de Jour by Gillows circa 1820
This is a delightful and very rare ladies writing desk made by the famous furniture makers ‘Gillows’ from the best quality mahogany timbers.
Probably made for a ladies boudoir or sitting room it is a very useful size for a small space.
The back has two useful book shelves with finely turned supports and matching decorative supports to the mahogany back panel.
The drawer is fitted with an adjustable writing slope with a black hide writing surface.
To the right of the writing slope is two small ink bottle compartments.
The drawer is cock-beaded to the front edges with the original brass lock and turned knobs.
There is a ‘Gillows, Lancaster’ stamp to the top edge of the drawer.
It stands on four turned and reeded legs and has been cleaned, polished and is ready for use.
The table is in good condition and has a beautiful patina and is a fine example of Gillows cabinet work
It would make a very useful piece of occasional furniture for a sitting room, small study or bedroom.
